Discussion 2

How has this book affected you personally in your own life?

  1. Kylie Shaw- This book has personally affected me in a strong way. In my book, my main character, Melody, struggles with cerebral palsy. This book has affected me by letting me understand (some) of the struggles anyone with this disability struggles with. It has made me understand that maybe some people have things they want to say but can't. Or they have a bunch of things in their head that they can't express.

    1. I agree. Some people have struggles that people dont really understand what its like. When they cant say anything they have to keep that inside with no one knowing whats going on.

    2. William. Our characters are quite similar in that my main characters have things they want to express but can't. My character doesn't really express himself for the fear of getting made fun of again. My book as well let's me kind of see things that happen to other people (not necessarily with disabilities) but with their own little problems.

I agree, in my book my character may not have cerebral palsey but my character still can't completely speak her mind. She disagrees with her family's customs but it's not as if she can say anything because it could risk how her and her family live in the house.

  2. Niyani-
My book, "Climbing the Stairs" has affected me a lot. In this book Vidya, my protaginist, has moved in with her father's side of the family. Despite the unfair treatment and new life, Vidya continues to speak her mind and pursue her studies. Later on Vidya got the permission to go to college using the money that's supposed to be used for her marriage. This affects me because it shows how I shouldn't let an obstacle keep me from doing what's right and to speak my mind. It also tells me that it's alright to not be another clone in society and to be my own unique individual.

My book has affected me extremely. My main character, Nick hall, has parents who have gotten a divorce. Even tho he wont be seeing his mom as much, he gets through the struggles and plays soccer happily. This affected me by showing me that no matter what, you should try to push through hard times. Divorced parents is hard to get over and having surgery a couple days later as well is worse. Nick is still able to get through the surgery and continue to play soccer. When I go through a hard time I will remember this and tell myself to push through and continue doing the things I love.

    1. I can see that your main character is going through a very hard time but is still pushing through even after having surgery can't be handled well, but it seems like Nick is doing a good job so far!

    2. While my book hasn't really effected me, one of the main character's friends died and he has had to cope with that. I really like how you are learning from the book and the character's experiences. It's like getting a little hint hint in certain situations. Like, this is *cough cough* what you do in this situation. I like how you can remember this book and use it to make you stronger.

    3. William. My character is similar to yours but doesn't have as drastic problems. He is dealing with something as well. Both of our book have taught us to just push through even when it doesn't seem easy. I like that your character has something that he does to make him happy.

My book is, "The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind" and this book has affected me in different ways. In my book there is a boy whose name is William, and he lives in a small village in Africa. In this village there is a lot of magical rumors and stories that go around. In the book the boy has to always act good or else he believes that the witches and wizards will come and take him. To me, that makes my believe that if you do something wrong it will come back and haunt you until you make it right. For instance in the book, some boys in the village gave him some gumballs that he ate, and soon later he found out that they were stolen and he thought that the witches and wizards would get him. Later he tells his father what he has done and feels a bit better because he owned up to it. In real life when you do something bad you will get karma, meaning it will come back and get you. This has taught me that I have to be honest about somethings that I might want to tell people.

I agree. If you keep something inside and are not honest it most definitely com back to get you. Karma is real and I am glad you have learned to be honest about things.

  5. William. My book "The Wednesday Wars" has impacted me in that it changed the way I view my situations and tasks. The book has taught me that even though you may not want to do something you just have to. The book has showed me that something can always be worse or that something you may not want to do could result in a good experience. Overall this book has taught me that life can be tough sometimes but you just have to muscle through it and it will be ok.

    1. Malena I agree with you, my book has also shown me that sometimes you have to say what you want and get your thought across.
